#UpCloseAndPersonal Interview W/ @TerriusMykel
- Originally from Greensboro, NC stayed in Norcross/Tucker , off Jimmy Carter when I was 6. Really all over Gwinnett
2. Which came first your love for videos or being a photographer?
- Its, crazy cause I never really had the passion for doing photography, It was video from the start, but it was more accessible to do photos when I first started
3. Do you have a target audience for who you want to work with?
- Yes I really want to work with artist that are creating Original Hip Hop Content, and few Trap Artist that have their own original sound.
4. How old were you when you realized that this is your thing?
- Well since around 5 or 6 , I've always had a passion for creation and being involved in lucrative projects, always busy setting something on fire, tryna build go karts, record songs off tape players etc.
5. What’s your favorite video that you have created?
- My favorite released video is probably QuezSelfPaid's Muddy Trouble, it was a very simple unplanned video but he had energy that a lot of artist I've worked with don't express. But I have some new unreleased Projects with Young Bo, Money Makin Nique, and ManMan Savage that are really cool, easily my new favorites.
6. Who are you working with at the moment?
- Consistently with Money Makin Nique and Young Bo, QuezSelfPaid and ManMan Savage, Vito PapaSito, AM100, my project manager is putting something together with Troy Ave's team.
7. What are you doing when you’re not creating? What (other) hobbies do you have?
- Probably reading , I use to play video games like 2014 , but just lost all interest into those things, there time consuming and brainwashing. But probably reading, chilling with a shorti, or working on school. I use to be a football head, but I outgrew the politics surrounding the sport.
8. What are people's reactions to your videos and art?
- I get a lot of praise on my how quickly I'm rising, but I still feel and know I haven't done anything relatively great yet. But I do appreciate any love and hate, any feedback is better than no feedback.
9. What opportunities have you gotten from your videos?
- I've gotten opportunities to travel to many states and work/meet a lot of people I use to listen to a lot, wether it was radio or the internet, but I'm heading out to NYC in a few days to work on a project. But the biggest opportunity to me is the chance to learn and obtain more knowledge , thats the most forceful intangible thing existing worth more than money and materialistic things.
10. How do you connect with majority of your clients?
- I connect through them from them seeing my work or a referral, I haven't implemented a strong marketing plan just yet.
11. Do you have to like the music before you shoot the video?
- At first when I started no, simply because I was doing it for just the money, now its for the money and I need to really like the song. Please don't send me no bullshit. We have to stop co-signing on bullshit, everybody think their artist because they have a soundcloud and a mixtape on datpiff, but thats not the case. We have to start keeping it real with artist and let them know they can do better.
12. What video directors do you look up to?
- I haven't looked up to any just yet, I'm not sure if I ever will, I do appreciate Rob Zombie [Halloween] and Felix Gray [Friday, Straight Out Of Compton] but as far as looking up to them, not really interested.
13. Do you like other indie directors?
- There's some dope ones in Atlanta
14. What do you want your legacy to be?
- The man that positively influence peopled, and to promote beneficial change long after I'm gone.
15. What other creatives have you worked with?
- A lot, Shelly Nicole, Ebo Haze, Diamonde Williamson, Spencer Charles, CJCVM, Le Toots, many more.
16. Who supports your dreams?
- Not everyone, some of my family. Its hard to switch them cause its always been about football, then I actually start my career on my own path.
17. What do you like about the creative scene in Atlanta?
- I like that its very positive, the creative scene if very welcoming. I don't like how everyone now thinks they are creative, not everyone was born with the gift to be creative.
18. Is what your doing now going to benefit you 20 years from now?
- Yeah its helping me build relationships and bridges. It's all about maintaining relationships and meeting morally good people. They will stick around and help even when its not benefiting them.
19. You also do photography how did you get into that?
- From being driven by wanting to direct videos, it was just a bonus and skill set I needed to learn, if you can create a dope picture , then the motion picture of that visual will be even better.
20. Is it harder being in college and doing everything that your doing?
- It's definitely a challenge being in school but it keeps me focused and busy. The hardest part is adjusting to relationships and mindsets, I have to have a school mindset when I'm in class, I have to almost belittle my thought process sometimes. I feel like I've already graduated and been in school , and everything is replay of what I already know.
21. How did you become the creative director at Huami Magazine? Also tell people what exactly is a creative director?
- I use to get assigned photoshoots , I would travel to Charlotte just to take pictures for the weekends and eventually my photo shoots started to stand out as well as the layouts I designed for flyers and page layouts. So I was eventually promoted. A creative director is someone who oversees the creative/visual aspects of a brand, they may not necessarily design or create the work, but they greatly involved in determine whats being presented, respective to timing as well.
22. What experiences in life have made you who you are today?
- Going through a whole lot of bullshit and never folding or giving up. I've never lost faith in anything I was doing.
23. When everything is said and done what do you want GOD to say to you?
- I would like for him to say you did your job.
24. Who are you?
- I'm not entirely sure yet, but nothing less than great to put it in perspective.
Thanks for the interview! Much Love to Rain!
