#MixtapeReview: #IDecidedNotToGoToCollege - @Lasko_Bills
Lasko Bills of DOPE dropped a wonderful project chronicling his choices of not wanting to go to college after his last year of high school. I was amazed that he was even still in high school but that's besides the fact. The entire project is a battle between doing what the world wants and what his heart wants. Along with school troubles, you can add girl troubles to that as well. "its either you or my dreams baby". Artists usually don't want to college because they feel like they don't need it. Lasko doesn't, his talent will take him far. He can make the indie life work for him IE: Tech N9ne. Each song has little tidbits about what's going on in his life the last couple of months of school. From him getting harassed about his grades by his father and his mother leaving. Lasko has this interesting way of storytelling. Its not the old school way but its in a way that matches old school and new school. In "My Everything" produced by Rascal and Ayo, its basically a "I'm on my way but I'm not officially there yet'. The line that sticks out to me is "I got rich nigga ambitions and broke nigga common sense" I feel like that is everyone out here on their grind trying to get to the top. In "Brightness" he chronicles his life in school. Either his parents asking for his grades, being late for the bus and happy that the school doesn't call. Smoking weed with his friends and just being a kid not wanting to go to school. The line that sticks out to me in this song is "I can't follow my dreams without feeling the stones that they tossin at me" . That doesn't have to be explained. The whole tape is what some people hope to say to their parents or others that force them to go to college and they don't want to. Each song will mean something to you. Arrangements which just happens to be my favorite song, is a slow party song. Its the beat and chorus that get me hype. Ace is also really dope and this is the first time I've ever heard of him.
Grade: 5 out of 5 Boomboxes
Must Listen to: Each song.
