#RookieOfAtlanta Interview w/ @_Amarae
I got a chance to interview Amarae from the rap collective Nedlog Era. Nedlog hails from Stone Mountain, GA. He won't be the last one I interview from the rising crew. He has dropped his latest project entitled Sessions. Read our interview.
1. Where are you from?
- Stone Mountain, GA (South Gotham)
2. When did you fall in love with rap?
- I feel in love with rap when I was in elementary school, my mom gave me all her Hip-Hop albums when I was in the 4th grade. (Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, etc.)
3. How did you start rapping?
- When I was in the 2nd grade my dad got me a small tablet to write my raps in, and the rest is history!
4. How old were you when you really started taking music seriously?
- I started taking rap seriously about a year, and a half ago, I was about 15.
5. Are you the only person in your family that is musically inclined?
- My dad used to rap a little, nothing serious though.
6. Were you always interested in music?
- I've always been interested in music, since I was very young.
7. What is your sound?
- We like to call it "Under-Stream"
8. What was the first song you wrote?
- The first song I remember writing was a freestyle to Snoop Dogg's "I Wanna Rock"! (IM A NAZTY BOY)
9. If you could create a collective full of artists from indie Atlanta who would you choose? (Not your crew your already with)
- I would choose my nigga Achim, Slim, MecoThe13th, Ace Apollo, Jamie, Willis, and Bill. Also I would tell everybody in Nedlog to change their name and draft them too!
10. Who do you like to collab with in Nedlog?
- I like collaborating with everybody but my favorite person to Collab with is Chickalo, because our ideas contrast a lot but when put together it's always tight.
11. What is Nedlog Era and how did it start?
- Nedlog Era is a group of the best rappers/producers in the Metro Atlanta Area. It came about through Spivey, he basically put all of us together. You can say he's the "Mastermind" behind it all.
12. How did you start producing?
- I started producing because Spivey and I used to have discussions about production, but I really didn't do it. So I decided to take a stab at it, and I got pretty good.
13. Do you like writing?
- I actually love to write, only when I want to though. I hate when teachers tell me to write. It's not that I'm stubborn, but I just don't like school (AT ALL).
14. Did you ever have to redo your verse after someone did theirs?
- Spivey, and DK have both made me go back and rewrite verses. Ol'meat was one of those instances.
15. After dropping "Sessions" will you drop some videos soon?
- Of Course! I got some more visuals with Billmatic Films on the way.
16. How long does it take you to record?
-It takes me about 3 hours or so to complete a song. I like to take my time, so it could honestly be longer than that.
17. What do you want your legacy to be?
- I just want to be mentioned with the greats. When people say "Who are the best Hip-Hop Artist?" I want my name to be in that conversation.
18. Is what your doing now going to benefit you 10 years from now?
- I believe it will, I'm trying to put myself in a position where I can help those that are in the same position as myself currently.
19. What experiences in life have made you who you are today?
- I believe moving out my mom's house, and the passing of my friend Makeba greatly shaped me. That just taught me to treat every second like it's your last, and tell those you appreciate you love them because you never know.
20. When everything is said and done what do you want GOD to say to you?
- I want him to tell me that I accomplished everything he had planned for me, and I inspired many great minds.
21. Who are you?
- I'm Amarae', God's son.
