#FreshmenOfAtlanta Interview w/ @FezSB

1. Where are you from?
• College Park, Ga.
2. When did you fall in love with hip hop?
• My love for Hip Hop came about when I was introduced to 2pac’s ‘I Get Around’, Snoop Dogg's 'Gin & Juice' and Biggie's ‘Juicy'. I remember watching those videos specifically too. This was when BET wasn’t on that bullshit.
3. Why do you rap?
• It’s an outlet for me. It’s fun, I enjoy doing it. I like creating and innovating and inspiring. It’s a form of poetry I feel like, where the boundaries are kinda limitless in a way.
4. Who are your influences in music?
• From a business aspect, I MUST say Pharrell Williams, Curren$y, Kanye, and Jay-Z. They influence me musically as well, but if we’re just keeping it just music, I’d have to say Big Boi, Andre 3000, (Solo And As Outkast), Eminem, Anita Baker, Ludacris, T.I. Cudi, Usher, Organized Noize, John Mayer, John Coltrane, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, 2pac, Nas, Dionne Farris, Al Green, Consequence, Mike Jones, Jimi Hendrix, R. Kelly, Phil Collins, The Isley Brothers, Ghost Town DJ’s, Chaka Kahn, Earth Wind & Fire, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, N.E.R.D., UGK, I Mean, honestly I could keep going but i’ma cut it there. But I have an influence from these artist because i grew up listening to them. A lot of them have been my musical influences since forever.  And one time for izzy too, Guerir Folie. Cooler Than Dope. We here.
5. Describe your musical style.
• Cooler Than Dope.
6. What was the first song you knew from start to finish?
• My first song? I really don’t even know, probably a school house rock song? Idk lol. But if i’m not mistaken, I wanna say it was ‘It Was A Good Day’. The Ice Cube joint or 2pac’s ‘I Get Around'
7. When will your tape be dropping?
• Recess Part Deux: Open House Will Be Dropping December 6th 2013. (this was done before the tape dropped)
8. Who do you want to collab with in the future?
• I’d like to work with anybody that’s willing to collaborate, but it would have to make sense of course. Other than that, I’d love to work with those who’ve influenced me.
9. What is your least favorite song that you have recorded?
• Idk. I’ma drop it February 32, 2014.
10. How long does it take you to record?
• It depends honestly, I record a bunch of different ways.
11. Where do you think you fit in Atlanta hip hop?
• I don’t think I ‘fit' in Atlanta hip hop, at all. The sound of Atlanta changes so much I wouldn’t want to ‘fit’ in. The music I make, or at least, to me, is much more than just Atlanta and the certain sound, that’s placed on the city.
12. How does what your doing now shape your next 10 years?
• I believe the things I’m doing now, shape my next 10 years because I indulge myself in so many different things and they just help me to lay the blueprint and foundation down to achieving the goals i’ve set for myself and acquiring the success I want for myself.
13. What do you want people to get from your music?
• Appreciation.
14. Is there a such thing as a perfect beat?
• Yes and No. lol. There’s angles. Instead of there being levels to this shit, there’s angles to this shit. I Say yes because whatever is perfect to you, then of course, to your standards, that’s perfect. I say no because there’s always something that could be tweaked or changed. I look at it in the light of, when somebody makes something, they feel as if it’s the shit and you can’t tell them anything because it’s theirs so the attachment is there. But having different opinions of other minds can definitely help the outcome of any product. For example, when I was watching the Zane Lowe x Kanye West interview, Kanye said he had to bring in the Zen Master, in which he was referring to Rick Rubin. Another brain that’s highly respected. And once Rick Rubin came in, he actually started to take certain things out on the Yeezus project and we all know how passionate Kanye is about his work, so there’s always a different angle to everything.
15. What is your next track that your going to drop be?
• Left On Langford.
16. What was your first rap name?
• Yung Trappa. lol. I’m Definitely Going To Blame The Snow Man haha.
17. How did you get your rap name?
• I had an analysis paper to do in school on one of your favorite TV shows, mines being ‘That 70’s Show’, and while writing the shit I took a deeper significance of the character Fez from the show and I picked it up from there and the SB is because Nike SB’s are one of my favorite shoes and nobody around me were really on them. Other folks walk around hypebeastin’ on the same shit so I couldn’t be like them. But anyway I flipped the SB and it stands for Stay Blessed. You might hear me say that a lot, so that’s why.
18. If you had to listen to one mixtape for the rest of your life what would it be?
• I honestly can’t even answer that question lol. So many choices, I couldn’t even tell you.
19. What is hip hop by your definition.
• I’ma keep it short, and just say a Musical Culture.
20. What experiences in life have made you who you are today?
• Being in a new environment as far as school goes, you know they say life begins at the end of your comfort zone, that’s something I truly believe in, and also losing friends to death at a young age. Growing up, I only thought stuff like that only happened on TV until I expereinced it. It messed up my mind pretty crazy, but you gotta pull the good out of every situation you know, so because of that I just always thought differently.
21. When everything is said and done what do you want GOD to say to you?
• I’m Proud Of You, Welcome Back.
22. Who are you?
• Fez SB. Pronounced FEZ ESS BEE. Somebody You Will Definitely Hear About.
