@OGxMaco Maco Mattox #RookieOfAtlanta Interview

Maco Mattox is one of the best upcoming artists from Atlanta right now. With a cosign from DJ Kay and some of the best records out like "Slim Thug" and "All In" he can't go anywhere but up. With the release of his upcoming project "LiveLife" November 22nd,  we'll see what this diverse artist can do.

1.Where are you from?

• College Park, GA. Old nat since my born day.
 2. When did you fall in love with hip hop?
• Love at first listen honestly; I can't remember when I didn't love music.
3. Why do you rap?
• I feel like rap is one of my favorite mediums to express myself and present my art. Rap, unlike many other genres or art forms, has an innate competitive aspect and I enjoy that.
4. What does hip hop mean to you?
• Hip hop means a lot to me. It's a reminder of the vibrant culture that exists in the black american experience. It's active anarchy in motion and motive. We may never know who the first poet was but we know the first MC and that's dope.
5. Describe your style.
• I make groovy shit. Its real and raw and gritty, yet smooth. It's life through my filter. Diversity is key and I make sure to compose every track in a way that never leaves you wondering how person A or B could have done it.
6. What was the first song you knew from start to finish?
• No idea honestly. Probably a Michael Jackson song. I was a huge fan as a kid.
7. What is OGG?
• OGG is a creative collective between myself, Brandon Thomas and OG Legend. That's all I can say at this time. Just be on the look out.
8. Why did you name your EP "LiveLife"?  • Live Life is more than a mixtape name. It is the name of a movement and family started by my dearly departed friend and mentor Joshua Alexis better known as Splurge. Following his death, I created this project to honor him and the spirit of us all.
9. Who do you want to collab with in the future?
• There are a few people I'm interested in working with both indie and beyond. Kanye, Money Makin Nique, Zip Kennedy, Will Hill, Theo Ferragamo, Johnny Cinco, Key!, Drake, Future; the list is as long as my creative imagination. 10.What is your favorite song that you have recorded?
• That is a hard one to choose lol. I'll go with All In just because of how perfect it transitioned from a thought into an amazing piece of work.
11. How long does it take you to record?
• Not long at all. Most tracks take about 20-35mins from first take to last. Efficiency is key.
12. Where do you think you fit in the Atlanta music scene?
• I don't.
13. What separates you from the rest of the artists in Atlanta?
• Diversity and factuality. Everyone has stories to tell and everyone has a way to tell them but very few have so many ways to tell one real life.
14. What do you want people to get from your music?
• I want everyone to get what they need from each song. People listen to the same songs for different reasons.

15. What do you want your legacy to be?
• I want to be one of the great ones. My story won't end in rap. I want to be an inspiration to the misfits and anarchists.
16. How did you and DJ Kay link up?
• Me and Kay go back to childhood days. We planned this whole ripple effect establishment deal when we were 15-16. People didn't know but we knew cause we're brothers.
17. Where did you get your rap name from?
• DJ Kay gave me my nickname a long time ago. Me him and a few other guys had a clique called "Broke & Bouje" in high school and we gave each other nicknames based on our traits. Word on the street; I had a lot of female companionship; Mac'n. Maco came from that. The Mattox comes from my deceased best friend Dale Mattox Jr. He lives through me.
18. Did your upbringing influence your music?
• In a big way. My dad is Nigerian so he listens to any music he likes no matter what. I learned the same and that allows me to make songs with ranging complexity and emotion. Phil Collins does that to you.
19. If you had to listen to one mixtape and one album for the rest of your life what would it be?
• Mixtape would probably be Covert Coupe if I had to choose one. Album is too tough but I would probably say Graduation.
20. What experiences in life have made you who you are today?
• Too many to count. Been a lot of ups and downs but through it all I remain and thank God for that.
21. When everything is said and done what do you want GOD to say to you?
• He understands. Even if he can't forgive.
22. Who are you?
• I'm the future promised, the kid who just needed a pat on the back, I'm the hope of a generation asking for change but unsure how to get it. I'm Ben, Maco, Bro, Bruh, Bruv, OG, Son, Cuz, Cuh, G, and my nigga. Just stay tuned.
